About this resource

Designed specifically for Reception classrooms, this editable EYFS Risk-Benefit Assessment supports practitioners to create rich, engaging learning environments whilst keeping children safe. Rather than focusing solely on hazards, this resource recognises the value of play, exploration and managed risk in supporting children's development. Covering both indoor and outdoor provision, each section considers the benefits of the activity, potential risks and practical control measures that allow children to investigate, create and thrive with confidence. This resource includes: • A daily safety checklist • Indoor provision risk-benefit assessments • Mud kitchen guidance • Climbing and loose parts play • Wheeled toys • Sand and water play • Construction experiences • Stage and performance areas Perfect for Reception teachers and EYFS leaders looking for a practical, child-centred approach to risk assessment that balances safety with meaningful learning opportunities.
