This comprehensive Mixed Nursery & Reception Curriculum Map has been designed specifically for EYFS settings where children aged 3–5 years learn alongside one another.
The map brings Nursery and Reception together through shared themes, experiences and areas of provision, while clearly identifying age-appropriate learning and progression for both 3–4-year-olds and 4–5-year-olds.
Across the academic year, the map includes six engaging themes, each supported by a Big Question, separate Nursery and Reception lines of enquiry, cultural capital and enrichment opportunities, and suggested role play areas. The themes are designed to provide a shared learning journey while allowing practitioners to adapt the level of challenge and expectations for each age group.
The curriculum covers all areas of the EYFS, including Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design, alongside phonics.
Within each area, learning is differentiated for Nursery and Reception, supporting practitioners to plan shared experiences while ensuring that learning remains developmentally appropriate. Reception learning builds naturally on the foundations developed during the 3–4 stage, creating a clear progression across the two age groups.
