About this resource

Starting school can feel like a big step for little learners — this gentle, reassuring social story is designed to support Reception new starters as they prepare for their first days. “My New School” is a fully editable social story that helps children become familiar with their new environment, routines, and key adults in a calm and positive way. With simple, child-friendly language and a clear structure, it builds confidence and reduces anxiety before starting school. The resource includes dedicated spaces to add your own photos, allowing you to personalise the story with real images of your classroom, staff, and school setting. This makes the experience more meaningful and relatable for each child. Perfect for sharing with families before term starts or revisiting during the first weeks of school, this social story is an ideal transition tool for Reception teachers.
