About this resource

Oral Blending Foundations - 6 Week Targeted Programme A practical six-week programme designed for Reception children who are accessing their school’s phonics programme but would benefit from additional, targeted support with oral blending. Delivered through two short, practical sessions each week, the programme gradually supports children to move from listening to adult modelling and identifying orally blended words towards blending familiar words with increasing independence. Activities are playful, practical and easy to deliver, using familiar objects, pictures, actions and games rather than worksheets. The programme is designed to sit alongside your school’s systematic synthetic phonics programme, with words selected to reflect the phonemes/GPCs children have already encountered. Included: ✓ 6-week oral blending programme ✓ 12 practical targeted sessions ✓ Clear weekly objectives and activities ✓ Guidance for adapting the level of support and challenge ✓ Starting point & 6-week review sheet ✓ Practitioner guidance for using the programme alongside your SSP This isn’t a separate phonics programme or a way of introducing new GPCs. It provides focused additional practice with the skill of hearing spoken phonemes and blending them together to make a whole word, helping practitioners identify what children can already do, provide appropriate support and review what they may need next.
