About this resource

Subitising to 5 A simple, visual PowerPoint designed to support children in developing their subitising skills and recognising quantities to 5 without needing to count each object individually. Using ten frames and different representations of numbers to 5, children are encouraged to look, notice and explain what they can see. The slides can be used as a whole-class maths input, quick daily retrieval, during small-group work or revisited regularly to build confidence and fluency. Encourage children to move beyond simply saying the number by asking “How do you know?”, helping them to notice patterns, recognise smaller amounts within larger amounts and begin developing a deeper understanding of number composition. Perfect for Reception and ideal for short, regular maths sessions.
