About this resource

Reception Summer 2 UTW Planning – Go Getters! (5 Weeks) A carefully sequenced 5-week Reception Understanding the World (UTW) planning document, designed to support children in exploring journeys, maps, oceans, pirates, habitats and different places around the world through meaningful, engaging and developmentally appropriate experiences. Built around the exciting theme “Go Getters!”, this resource encourages children to become curious explorers as they investigate their local environment, learn about different places, develop map skills and begin to understand how people and environments can be similar and different. Planning is structured around key enquiry questions: History • How did people travel in the past? • What can stories teach us about pirates and explorers? Geography • How do we know where to go? • Where in the world is the ocean? • How are places around the world similar or different? Included in this resource: • 5 weeks of detailed UTW planning • Weekly teaching inputs and modelling opportunities • Independent activities and provision enhancements • Carefully sequenced knowledge progression across the half term • Opportunities for discussion, exploration and vocabulary development • Practical, realistic activities suitable for Reception classrooms • Links to History and Geography through enquiry-based learning • Meaningful opportunities for map work, positional language and real-world exploration Children will explore: • Maps, journeys and routes • Their school and local environment • Oceans, sea creatures and habitats • Pirates, treasure maps and positional language • Different places around the world and how they compare to where we live • Caring for environments and ocean habitats Planning is aligned with the EYFS Statutory Framework, Development Matters and ELG expectations, whilst remaining realistic and developmentally appropriate for children in the final half term of Reception. Perfect for: ✔ Reception teachers ✔ ECTs and teachers new to EYFS ✔ EYFS curriculum planning ✔ Teachers wanting practical, purposeful Summer 2 provision Please note: This planning is intended to be adapted to suit the needs and interests of your own cohort.
