About this resource
We truly believe the best collaboration comes from bringing together an EYFS specialist and a Year 1 specialist.
Created collaboratively by Vic Dobbs Reynolds (@mrs_dreynolds), an established Year 1 teacher and advocate for play-based learning in KS1, and Laura Shepherd (@eyfswithmrs_s), an experienced EYFS Lead and Reception teacher, this comprehensive virtual CPD has been designed to bridge the gap between EYFS and Year 1, supporting teachers to create a smooth, developmentally appropriate transition.
Combining expertise from both year groups, this training explores where children are coming from, how learning progresses from the EYFS Framework into the National Curriculum, how to create an effective play-based Year 1 classroom, and the importance of high-quality adult interactions in supporting children's learning.
This CPD covers:
What GLD really means (and what it doesn't).
Supporting children still working towards the ELGs.
Continuous provision, enhancements and provocations.
Why play belongs beyond EYFS.
Progression from the EYFS Framework to the National Curriculum.
Characteristics of Effective Learning beyond Reception.
Practical strategies for creating a play-based Year 1 classroom.
Planning purposeful provision and environments.
Perfect for:
Reception teachers
Year 1 teachers
